Located on National Road 1, 20 kilometers south of the center of Akhfenir, Lake Naïla is the largest lagoon on Morocco’s Atlantic coast, with a water area of more than 3,000 hectares surrounded by graded sandstones sculpted by the effects of marine erosion.
Lake Naïla is an exceptional environment for biodiversity and is a stopover for migratory birds during their journeys. The lagoon was previously categorized as a Site of Environmental Importance by the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF). On a national level, the lake is recognized as a protected area by law, and a national park is planned for the future. |
